Just like 2D printers use ink, 3D printers use something called filament. This filament is what gets extruded from the printer, in small quantities, in melted form as the printer slowly creates a physical 3D object. There are 
Stick Filament is a novel idea which allows those printing objects to really customize their prints. There are numerous benefits to Stick Filament over that of the traditional spools of filament. They include:
- Easy loading of filament into printer. There is no twisting of the material like you get with spools;
- Less storage and desk space is needed than with spools;
- It is extremely economic. There is no need to buy large spools to get one material or color for a small project;
- Ability to print objects of multiple colors from one extruder without having to change the spool out;
- Customize your prints to the fullest;
The sticks easily snap together, allowing final prints to include any variety of materials and colors one chooses. Materials available include nylon, hips, wood pulp, aluminum, photolum, ABS Ultraclear as well as combinations of several of these materials. The sticks will work with any 3D printer accepting 3mm filaments. They are also testing 1.75mm versions for future release.
Stick Filament has launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign on Monday, seeking to raise €20,000. Those who fund the project will get one of several rewards offered, ranging from a .stl file of Stick Filament’s Robostick mascot, to the Ultra Bulk reward which features 15 kilograms of Stick Filament. The Indiegogo campaign will run until midnight, Pacific time on March 13th.
