“The assembled version doesn’t sell well, so we are retiring it, but doubling down on this kit,” explained Printrbot Founder and CEO Brook Drumm. “Sacrificing margin to bring the best low cost kit to the masses! Oh, and [we are] going to 4 large motors, and much easier, fool proof construction and instructions. We are also doing machined metal upgrades as drop in replacements to sweeten the pot. Some want to try before making a big investment. This strategy will allow someone to discover and learn at rock bottom prices and upgrade over time.”
The latest kit includes:
– Aluminum Z-axis coupler
– 60/61 aircraft aluminum – print bed
– Aluminum extruder
– GT2 belts and pulleys on X & Y axis
– Auto level sensor
– 4 large Nema 17 stepper motors
– Improved rigidity
– Cleaner design including electronics underneath the printer
– Clearly labeled laser cut parts (makes assembly a whole lot easier)
– 4″x4″x4.5″ build
– 1/4″ acme
– .1mm layer height
These new kits are priced at the same price as the old kits were, only $349.00, and weigh approximately 9.3 pounds, with dimensions of 10 x 10 x 4 inches. The remaining assembled maker’s kits of the previous version are currently on sale at a discounted price of $424.00, as they will be phasing these out.
The Printrbot Simple is considered to be Printrbot’s ‘entry level’ 3D printer.
