It has now been announced that ‘TurboRoo Designs‘, the makers of TurboRoo’s original dog cart, have teamed with a company called BarkBox to raise funds in order to 3D print dog carts for 10 other 2-legged canines.
From now until Valentine’s Day (February 14th), you can donate to the cause, helping one of these dogs get the doggy cart that he/she has been yearning for. It costs about $300 to produce each cart, and at the time this article was written the fund has raised an astounding $1544.
There are 10 2-legged dogs who are looking forward to seeing the donations reach at least $3,000 so that they can all become the owners of new 3D printed doggy carts. Any extra funds raised will go toward purchasing a new 3D printer.
“The printer we have now is a Makerbot Replicator,” TurboRoo Designs tells 3DPrint.com. “It blew up about a week ago and we have been working to get it back up and running. [We are] looking into getting tan Ultimaker this month to replace it!”
Currently they are using a man who resides in their local area to do all of the 3D printing for them, although they have hopes of getting their own 3D printer soon.
As for the dogs who will be receiving the donated doggy carts, here is a little information about them.
Teeter
Teeter was dumped off at a shelter in Arkansas when he was a newborn. The lady that had to transport him to the refuge ended up adopting him, and the rest is history.
Tito
Tito was evidently in high demand by his now owner, Gustavo De Rosa. De Rosa traveled an incredible 700 miles from Buenos Aires to Santiago del Estero to adopt this cute little Dachshund. He, like TurboRoo, was born without his front legs, but hopefully a doggy cart will solve all of his life’s problems.
“I am willing to offer Tito whatever he needs in order for him to live a full life,” said De Rosa. “In my house, he will have everything.”
PeeWee
PeeWee is a Chihuahua who was also born without both of his front legs. He was rescued by an organization called ‘The Mia Foundation’, from a breeder in Texas who no longer wanted him. We’ll see if that breeder changes his mind once he sees little PeeWee rolling around in his cart.
Ellie Mae
Ellie Mae and her sister Madi were both born exactly 2 years ago on Valentine’s Day. They were rescued in March of that year and are now both living happily together. With that said, a dog cart would certainly make them both a little bit happier.
Rocket
Rocket is a Kangaroo Chihuahua. He was born without his front legs, and was rescused by the Mia Foundation like PeeWee. Once he gets his 3D printed doggie cart, perhaps he will live up to his name.
Jack
Jack was the son of an abandoned stray dog found on the streets in Stockton, California. The person who brought her home had no idea that she was pregnant. They soon discovered that they quickly became the owners of not one dog but four. Jack was part of a litter of three puppies, but was the only one missing his front legs. At first his owners tried seeing if a local rescue or animal hospital would adopt him, but they soon found out that all they wanted to do was euthanize him. When they learned of this, they decided to keep Jack, and they are very glad they did.
