itSeez3D is based in Russia, and is a spin-off of itSeez, a computer vision research and development company. Founded in 2005 by a trio of young men consumed by computer science and technology, the parent company is serious business—staffed by research scientists and computer engineers whose focus is in computer vision, pattern recognition and machine learning.
This application update is made possible due to the Occipital Structure Sensor which is going to get a lot of 3D printing enthusiasts excited and at the ready for turning their iPads in full body scanners. If the quality is as good as they say it is, it will solve a lot of problems in trying to find an easy, affordable way to scan models. In just a couple of minutes, users are rewarded with a full-color model for 3D printing, and itSeez3d reports that the update now allows users to scan ‘more than 50 percent higher resolution textures.’
While itseez focuses on numerous complex technologies, to include robotics and transparent object detection, computational photography, and exciting and new concepts like emotion recognition, their specialty is in creating and applying algorithms to new technology such as this app.
Companies like Germany’s MediaMarkt consumer electronics are latching on to itSeez3D to gain customer attention by offering customers the ability to create 3D printed color figurines.
Victor Erukhimov, CEO states that the desire for 3D printed items is on the rise, and he sees critical areas being in that of figurines, virtual clothing, and scanning for medical applications.
“itSeez3D provides a fast and easy way to capture a very realistic color model of a human body,” Erukhimov said. “We have invested a lot of thinking into making our cloud service convenient for integration with 3D printing and other practical use cases. We also believe there is a lot of potential for full body scanning in the entertainment industry. Eventually, 3D photos will become as essential as 2D photos are today.”
Now the world is yours for scanning, virtually anywhere you can carry your iPad. You can also make scans of your favorite friends and loved ones, and they are never more than a 3D printed figurine away.
