The ZYYX team, of Sweden, offers an elegant and simple product streamlined for the user, touting an emphasis on eco-friendliness for the modern, discerning designer who values time and eschews needless waste.
The true unique feature though is the fan, filtering air through a carbon filter and eliminating fumes from melting filament. This keeps your prints in perfect condition, and means you aren’t coughing from fumes, or listening to others complain — and your prints remain in a state of purity.
While still being offered at the same price of €1,550, the ZYYX is already improved for new customers on the horizon, with upgrades available for current users. Everything they have improved focuses on not just allowing you to product higher-quality 3D prints, but works to prevent mishaps before they have a chance to go too far, or happen at all. They also emphasize the importance of being able to leave the room with confidence while the ZYYX is printing, as well as avoiding the waste of materials.
With a new software update, the ZYYX team is offering new features like improved print and surface quality. What they are really excited about talking about though is their main new hardware feature: the filament monitor.
When everything is hunky dory and printing smoothly, the green light is on. If the light goes out, the printer is signaled. The monitor sends an alert that the printer is out of filament, or the model is stuck or deformed, and the machine pauses. That gives you time to re-load material or fix a tangle or problem with a more complicated model at hand. The monitor is driven by a module attached to the back of the ZYYX, which can be retrofitted for all existing customers, who can order it directly from the company.
They’ve also added failed print detection. The printer detects unidentified objects, as well as warping and curling, and pauses, so that you can assess the situation and either add supports or fix the print with a simple solution, or cancel it altogether so you don’t waste time and materials.
The ZYYX also allows a manual pause so that you can stop and change colors or deal with a problem. Due to “optimised acceleration implementation,” the user can expect fewer malformations and failures. Integrated with the new Sailfish open source firmware, users receive use of what ZYYZ reports to be superior, stable, bug-free software.
This printer is also known for its surface-compensating build plate system, which means you no longer have to adjust your print bed prior before getting started on 3D printing. The integrated probe, which is a part of the printer head, measures and adjusts for your project. Not only is it leveled and calibrated before you receive it, the ZYYX probes the build plate at multiple positions before each print.
We reported on this 3D printer in the middle of last year when it was gaining exposure and popularity, and it’s encouraging to see improvements on a machine already at the top of its game. Founded in 2013, the company is based in Gothenburg, Sweden but has strong ties with China, and Chinese 3D printer manufacturer Magicfirm LLC is a shareholder in the company.
