Coming to us from Mixee Labs, a progressive online arena for designers to show off and sell their wares, this is another fashion item to come down the line that is not only utilitarian but aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and suitable for everyday use. That’s a combination of items we’ve been waiting to see come together with 3D printing and fashion. While we have the greatest respect for the mix of art, 3D printing, and haute couture that’s been in the headlines a great deal with 3D printed dresses at events and on the runway along with accessories and fabulous jewelry, much of it is more appropriate for rock stars and runways—rather than for everyday individuals.
Made with a design featuring triangles, the shapes are hinged, and that’s how the material folds. This is becoming a more common design feature that we’ve reported on previously, as it allows the fabric to move without sacrificing durability. For printing the bag, each side is printed as a full piece with the hinges intact, producing a material that’s flexible right off the printer.
Once each side was printed, they snapped together easily in an interlocking design. Due to the use of a heat bed, they were able to produce shiny, smooth surfaces.
Have you created anything like a 3D printed purse, or any other 3D printed fashion accessories? Is the Mixee Bag something you would be interested in purchasing? Share with us in the Mixee Labs 3D Printed Bags forum over at 3DPB.com.
