Draken 3D SLA Printer Boasts Speed – and Lets You Watch Movies?

3DFacture say their Draken SLA 3D Printer is both speedy and accurate, and they’re looking for a little Kickstarter love to get their device into production.

They say the Draken is “almost the fastest personal SLA printer in the market today,” and that, while it takes a typical consumer grade printer 6-8 hours to print a 6.5 inch Statue of Liberty at a100 micron Z resolution, their machine takes just 3.6 hours.

With its touted 3.9” x 7.1” x 8.7” build area, minimum 37 micron XY resolution, low noise, and up to 1.8+ inches per hour print speed, the company says the Draken can print down to 10 microns on the Z axis. What does that mean? It means printing pillar features “as fine as a strand of hair.”

The inner printer frame is made of an integrated piece of high-quality steel and the outer shell is a single piece of aluminum alloy sheet, and 3DFacture says that assures stability and precision.

And as a bonus, they say “the Draken is so flexible that you can easily take out the commercial-grade, high definition projector and use it to project HD movies and have your own home theater.”

SLA printing and a home theater?

They also say the resin vat on the Draken is bonded with a thin layer of Teflon atop the silicon coating, which greatly extends the lifetime of the vat.

Aimed at the jewelry design, art, research prototyping, and hobby crafts markets, 3DFacture says the Draken can print out the fine details of complex structures needed for jewelry design. They also offer a castable resin which features a clean, ash-less burn-out.

Built with a commercial-grade HD 1080p projector featuring a 1920 x 1080 native resolution, they say the Draken projector solidifies each layer in a two-dimensional fashion — without mechanical movements – and that is meant to reduce the likelihood of mechanical failure compared to the one-dimensional laser technique.

The Draken supports all third-party resins and the makers add that they’re tested consumables like MakerJuice, MadeSolid, FTD, and Formlabs resins.

The Kickstarter deal also offers a pair of post-curing UV LED lamps. The basic UV LED lamp is available at its own pledge level of $99, and a duplex UV LED lamp is available at a pledge level of $199.

3DFacture say the printers will be ready by March of this year and mass production will begin if their project is funded on Kickstarter.

The Makers of the Draken SLA 3D Printer, 3DFacture, say their machine is almost twice as fast as standard SLA printer. What do you think of this Kickstarter bid? Please let us know in the Draken 3D SLA Printer forum thread on 3DPB.com.
