I myself, was even a skeptic when I initially purchased my 3Doodler, but slowly and surely I found that the ‘glorified hot glue gun’, as I called it, actually was an incredible tool for artists, makers, and even designers. Over the last 22 months, we have seen some incredible work done with this device. From 3D printed dresses, to remote control airplanes, to Halloween masks, the 3Doodler has proven to be quite an invention.
Over the last year, there have been several competitors entering the market, trying to capitalize on the early success of WobbleWorks. Competition usually leads to further innovation, and is almost always a good thing for consumers. Today, that competition has driven WobbleWorks LLC. to launch the 3Doodler 2.0 on Kickstarter.
This latest device is completely redesigned, sleeker, and easier to use. With a frame which is 75% smaller than the original, and a weight which comes in at half of its predecessor, the 3Doodler 2.0 is the result of over two years of research and development. Below are just a handful of the improvements we will see in this new device:
- Brand new nozzle design – Much better performance and a better look.
- Re-engineered drive system – Smoother doodling
- Enhanced & quieter airflow – Cools the thermoplastic faster, making doodling in the air easier and crisper.
- Dual speed control – Print faster with more control.
- Double-click function for continuous flow – Tired fingers? Double-click the button to lock it in the ‘on’ position.
- Manual temperature optimization – Adjust the extrusion temperature to fit your needs.
- More efficient and stable heating system – More consistent doodles are now possible.
- Reduced power consumption – Uses half of the electricity as the original 3Doodler.
WobbleWorks is also making several new accessories available on Kickstarter. These include the DoodleStand, a JetPack, which is a portable power pack, allowing for 2-3 hours of non-stop doodling on the go, a six nozzle interchangeable set, and a foot pedal for more versatile doodling.
The Kickstarter project offers several backer options. The first 100 backers were able to pay just $50 to pre-order the 3Doodler 2.0. Although all of these packages have been purchased almost immediately upon the launch of the campaign, the company has also added a “Day 1 Community Special’ as a reward. This reward will include the 3Doodler 2.0, along with 100 strands of filament for just $85 while supplies last. Once these are also gone, the price jumps up to $99. There are also additional packages available for those who are interested in any number of the new accessories we mentioned above.
The campaign has already exceeded its goal of $30,000 and will conclude on January 25. If everything goes as planned, the very first units will begin shipping next month. Let us know if you’ve backed this project. Discuss in the 3Doodler 2.0 forum thread on 3DPB.com.
