In 2017, AM Research (then known as SmarTech Publishing) published what probably seemed like an odd research note to the AM industry at the time – an opportunity brief and opinion piece about a specific firearms component called a suppressor (commonly referred to as a silencer). A few years prior to that, a handful of specialist companies had begun producing the world’s first additively manufactured silencers. We immediately saw the potential, which could be summarized by three key tenets:
