3Denovo, a soon-to-launch 3D model marketplace, has created a very unique 3D printed model of Baymax. The model, which uses incredible design skill and combines it with quite an imagination, is actually a desk lamp.
“Printing either his white cuddly body or an armor-up figurine is easy and plain,” explained Judy Tang of 3Denovo to 3DPrint.com. “What we wanted to do was add an interesting design of our own. Inspired by the scene where Baymax’s belly is too big to wear the armor, as shown in the movie’s poster, we thought it would be totally fitting to replace his protruding belly with a light bulb, which could be easily bought at the supermarket.”
The body of Baymax was printed in one single piece, but designed so that it can fold at approximately its midpoint, allowing for the insertion of a light bulb. Once the bulb is inserted, the model can then be straightened out in order to secure the bulb perfectly in place. They used an UP! Plus 2 3D printer and white ABS thermoplastic filament. Once the print was completed, the designers used red spray paint to add color to the majority of the body.
“It’s a functional desktop decoration,” stated Tang. “We suggest using a light bulb with low wattage, so that the light would not be too dazzling.”
“By presenting our own designs, we’d also like to encourage other designers to present their brilliant ideas and works,” said Tang. “For now, before we officially launch our site, Twitter and Facebook are our major platforms for communication. Everyone can find all the projects we’ve done on our social media, and leave his/her thoughts, ideas and creativity there as well.”
