Turn Yourself Into a 3D Printed ‘Ghostbuster’ Figurine With the Help of 3DMe

It’s been over 30 years since the first Ghostbusters film was released by Columbia Pictures in June of 1984. The film, which has become an American classic, and one of my own personal all-time favorite comedies, has become a merchandising goldmine, with comic books, video games, toys, and more.  In fact, there has even been a Ghostbuster TV Series.  With Ghostbusters 3 scheduled for release, likely next year, the franchise is as vibrant as ever.

Today, 3D Systems’ 3DMe platform, has teamed up with Columbia Pictures to present personalized Ghostbusters figurines. For those of you familiar with 3DMe, the platform allows anyone to take a picture of themselves and turn that picture into a 3D printed figurine in the likeness of their favorite characters. Examples in the past range from NBA basketball players, to the Star Trek cast, to fantastical characters like fairies, pirates, and cowboys for the kiddies.

To get started, you will be asked to upload a photograph of your face, taken from the front. Next, the system will automatically integrate your face onto any of a variety of Ghostbuster character bodies. Because the web application is not great at picking up features like one’s hair, you will have the option to choose both your hair color and style.

The application is quite a blast to play around with, and even if you don’t intend on purchasing a figurine, I recommend checking it out to see what you would look like as a Ghostbuster. There is even the ability to share the 3D model you’ve created of yourself on both Facebook and Twitter.

If you do intend to purchase a figurine, they cost just $69.99, and would make a perfect gift for any fan of the hit comedy. Each figurine is printed using a Cubify Colorstone material, and they are not meant to be used as a toys, as they are somewhat fragile.
