Contest For Best 3D Printed Food, Business Idea

3D Food printing is a whole new technology which has really begun to take off this year. Earlier in the year 3D Systems, the largest 3D printing company in the world, acquired Sugar Lab, the creator the Chef Jet series of 3D noew1printers. The Chefjet can print dozens of different sugar colors, and flavors.

The New Orleans Entrepreneur Week started last Saturday, and runs until tomorrow. Today was an exciting day at the event if you are into 3D Printing. The Keynote speech was given by Hugh Evans, Vice President of Corporate Development & Ventures at 3D Systems. Being a New Orleans native, he fit right in. Today Evans, along with Tim Williamson, CEO of The Idea Village, announced a giveaway for a 3D Systems’ Chefjet printer, valued at approximately $10,000 in a contest for the best business ideas around using the technology in a business setting.

The funding for the printer was provided by an anonymous donor. Both Evans and Williamson stated that they want the winner to teach others about the machine and the technology behind it.

“We want someone to catalyze the food printing industry here,” Williamson said. “We should be the best.”

Many within the industry expect to see a gradual adoption by the food industry, especially restaurants, of 3D food printers, as a way to provide unique dishes for their customers.  More Details can be found at the NOEW Website. Feel free to discuss the contest or just come up with some ideas of your own at 3D Print Board.
