WPT 3D Printer Launches on Indiegogo Starting at Just $499

New 3D printers continue to make their way to market, relying heavily on crowdfunding sites such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Unlike five or six months ago, it takes a whole lot to get funded. In a market saturated with printers which are basically rebranded versions of each other, manufacturers really need to stand out if they wish to appeal to consumers.

This is what one company called Inovawt, led by a man named William Guey is trying to do. Guey has recently launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for his WPT 3D printer, in an effort to raise $60,000 to begin production. The printer, which will rely on its affordable price (starting at $499 for the earliest backers), and large build volume to hopefully attract interested parties, features the following specifications:

Additionally, the WPT 3D printer features many ‘extras’ which actually do make this machine stand out from the boring devices many manufacturers are throwing onto the market, especially when considering its price. The build area on this printer  can be illuminated with white LEDs, while the build platform is both heatable and removable. The printer can also function as a standalone machine, via an integrated USB flash drive, not relying solely on a computer to feed it G-code.

As for a comparison to some of the more well known, better selling machines on the market, the WPT 3D printer certainly holds its own, as you can see in the graphic provided below.

The first three machines sold to early bird backers are expected to be shipped sometime in December, while all others will be shipped in January. The $499 early bird package will include full shipping worldwide, as well as a 1kg spool of PLA filament, while all other backers will pay $599 for the printer, which includes 2kg of PLA filament. The Indiegogo campaign will run until November 24, and is a Flexible Funding campaign, which means even without reaching its goal the funds will be received by Guey and his company.
