SprintRay Introduces CES 2017 Innovation Awards Honoree MoonRay S DLP Desktop 3D Printer

California 3D printing startup SprintRay entered the 3D printing arena in late 2014 with its StarRay SLA 3D printer and launched a successful Kickstarter campaign less than a year later for its more compact MoonRay UV DLP 3D printer. The company is at CES 2017, and introduced its upgraded DLP 3D printer at the show yesterday. The next-generation desktop MoonRay S 3D printer is an Innovation Awards Honoree at this year’s CES, and has been majorly upgraded since its first iteration.

MoonRay S is a wireless 3D printer that delivers high quality, fast prints with a minimum feature size of 100 microns – this allows users to 3D print the most intricate of details with high resolution. With a build size of 5″ x 3.2″ x 8″, users are also able to print tall parts. Custom-built LED DLP projector RayOne makes up the core of the MoonRay S, and delivers premium accuracy, as it is able to consistently hit the correct light wavelength across the build platform. This brings a high level of dimensional stability to the printing process, and allows for better resin-curing control. The MoonRay S delivers excellent, high-speed prints, thanks to a minimum layer thickness of 20 microns and a consistent print speed of up to one vertical inch per hour, even if you’re printing simultaneous models. This makes it up to ten times faster than laser SLA 3D printers.

Its intuitive software, RayWare, lets users begin a print wirelessly with only a few clicks of the mouse. Once you’ve added your models, RayWare takes on the hard work of slicing and support generation for you. It also comes with many optional adjustable settings, so you can make your printing process as simple or as complex as you want. RayWare is compatible with both Mac and Windows devices. This wireless software also lets you manage multiple machines, and you can get detailed print status updates as well.

Amir Mansouri, SprintRay CEO and co-founder, says, “We want to set the bar for 3D printing by printing faster, with higher resolution, and with long lasting ability – and we think MoonRay S does just that. We are focused on delivering ease of use, quality of resins, and cost-efficiency. MoonRay S, and our specialized materials, brings users the advanced functionality they want while maintaining the machine’s simplicy and reliability.”

The RayWare Support Generator also makes the MoonRay S up to 30% more efficient compared to other 3D printing software. Its optional surface-smoothing algorithm keeps your parts smooth, and helps the surfaces not look pixelated. RayWare also features an advanced support-generation algorithm, which adds strong supports right where they need to be, in just one click. These supports have been designed to use less material than other support-generation systems, and are also not difficult to remove. The finishing kit helps you clean your 3D printed parts; however, even without extensive cleanup, parts printed with the MoonRay S boast a great surface finish right off the print bed.

The MoonRay S resin tank and build platform have both been updated, to allow for easier cleaning and resin removal. The unique, patented resin tank is durable and easy to maintain – you won’t have to worry about replacing it on a regular basis, or changing the PDMS layer. What’s more impressive, the tank lasts for use of up to 50 liters of resin, which is about 25 times longer than resin tanks of similar 3D printers!

If you decide you want to own this versatile, easy-to-use desktop 3D printer, it is currently available for purchase on the SprintRay website for $3,999. Here is everything that comes with it:
