NYC Marathon Runners Can Now Register for a Free 3D Printed Mini Marathoner Statue of Themselves

mar3Running a marathon is one of the most difficult athletic events one can compete in. The 26 mile, 385 yard run is a feat that certainly deserves recognition. For those who make the finish line, no matter what their finishing time is, it’s something they will remember for a lifetime. Doing so in New York City makes the event even more special.

This year the New York City Marathon, sponsored by Tata Consultancy Services, will be held on November 2, and the buzz has already begun. Aesics, a performance athletic product manufacturer, has teamed up with New York Road Runners (NYRR), to provide quite a unique souvenir to those participating in the event, free of charge.

Together, both Aesic and NYRR will be offering runners who have registered for the TCS New York City Marathon, the ability to create and receive their very own 3D printed statue of themselves in a running pose. The statues are first come, first serve, and are offered on a limited basis, so if you are registered for the marathon, you should immediately head on over to the website created for this giveaway and provide the necessary information.

Once at the site, you must connect to it via your Facebook account. At this point you will need to make sure that the email you provide matches the ‘My NYRR’ email address used when you registered for the marathon. The site will then ask you to upload four different images of yourself in various poses, from various angles. It is important to follow the suggested tips if you want your 3D printed statue to turn out just right. These tips include using an 8-megapixel camera or higher with a flash, and to avoid wearing glasses, showing your teeth, or placing your hair over your face,

Once the images are uploaded, you will be asked to provide a a small amount of personal information such as your name, gender, disabilities, why you are running this year, and your Twitter account if you have one. Within a few weeks, you will receive an email from Aesic with further details regarding your personalize statue.

Considering that last year there were over 50,000 runners, it goes without saying that these free souvenirs will not last long. If you do end up receiving one, please feel free to post an image within the 3D printed NYC Marathon statue forum thread on 3DPB.com.
