“Throughout history statues have been used to recognize extraordinary people,” the company states. “And whatever their feats, these heroes have demonstrated a ‘why settle’ spirit.”
#WhySettle is the hashtag entrants can use to nominate the people who dedicate themselves to the often thankless task of traveling for their work. Tell their stories (in no more than 300 words) on either the Hyatt Place or Hyatt House Facebook pages, making sure to include their names as well as the #WhySettle and #Entry hashtags, explaining why they embody the “why settle” spirit. Entries are being accepted until October 25, and up to 30 winners will be selected. Entries are judged on creativity, emotional appeal, uniqueness, and applicability to the contest theme.
Hyatt has created a real “classical heroes” theme, and why not? People today sacrifice a lot for jobs that don’t always give them a lot back, so why shouldn’t a stressed-out traveler be honored in the same way as a Greco-Roman hero? The 3D printed statues, which are about six inches tall and printed in sandstone, depict honorees in togas and laurels, toting their suitcases, tablets, cell phones, and whatever other instruments they haul around from city to city. It may not be the head of Medusa, but to an exhausted traveler, a ringing cell phone can look pretty monstrous after a while.
To inspire entrants, Hyatt is featuring stories on Facebook about notable people they believe to be heroes – like Morris Robinson, a talented college football player whose NFL dreams were dashed, but who refused to feel sorry for himself, going on to become, instead, a professional opera singer. That’s the kind of story Hyatt is especially looking for – stories of people who have overcome setbacks and turned challenges into advantages, who have showed the determination to better themselves or their businesses despite obstacles.
Has someone in your life inspired you with their hard work and determination? Nominate them, and give them the chance to be honored like the heroes they are. You can find full contest rules here. Discuss this at the Hyatt Travel Contest forum at 3DPB.com.
