Da Vinci’ 2.0 3D Printer, April Release, $649 Price Tag

About a year ago, at the Consumer Electronics Show, a Taiwanese company called XYZprinting Inc. launched what many industry insiders considered to be one of the best consumer based 3D printers for the money. The da Vinci’ 3D Printer cost $449, and had the quality of printers nearly three times its price, according to judges at the show. Fast forward about 14 months and XYZprinting is about to begin shipping the da Vinci’ 2.0 3D Printer.

The da Vinci’ 2.0 has been at the center of a lot of buzz over the last few months within 3D printing circles. XYZPrinting will finally begin shipping the machines next month, at a price of $649. Initially it will be available both online, and on store shelves in the U.S, China, Japan, and much of Europe.

In addition to its higher cost, the da Vinci’ 2.0 will have several major changes from its predecessor. The new machine will actually have a smaller build volume of approximately 5.9 x 7.8 x 7.8 inches, while featuring not one, but 2 extruder heads, allowing users to print two different colors at once. The two extruders will also speed up some project’s print speeds.

Here are some of the specifications of The da Vinci’ 2.0:

XYZprinting hopes to see their sales grow substantially over the coming year with the help of the this new 3D printer. They currently have global sales targets at 100,000 units for 2014, and over 1 million units from 2014-2016.  They have been working on a major new production line, which will be able to produce over 10,000 printers per month.  Discuss this printer at the da Vinci’ 2.0 forum thread.
