It was only a week ago when we reported on two separate events, both of which saw the company expand their manufacturing capabilities. Last week 3D Systems announced the expansion of their filament manufacturing capabilities, by opening a brand new facility in Barberton, Ohio. This was after earlier in the week, they announced the signing of a lease for a massive 200,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Rock Hill S.C. which would be utilized to meet demand for its printers and printing materials.
Here we are just a week later and the company has made yet another move, opening up a new innovation center and software development facility in Cary, North Carolina. The new facility has 22,000 square feet of space which will be dedicated to R&D.

“This new innovation center showcases our ongoing commitment to providing the best 3D engineering, design and printing software tools available, with a focus on affordability and usability,” said Calvin Hur, Vice President and General Manager Geomagic Solutions for 3DS. “We are reinventing the engineer’s desktop and workflow, providing a seamless digital thread that extends from physical photography, scan-based design and inspection to 3D printing.”
The facility will also feature a 3D design-to-print showroom, as well as a training facility, making it easy for potential customers and resellers to come in, learn about the technology, and get a demonstration. Additionally 
Judging from the expansion in manufacturing and research capabilities we are seeing with 3D Systems, it certainly looks like they expect the market, and particularly their business, to undergo incredible growth over the coming months and years ahead. It makes you wonder what exactly they have up their sleeves.
