Founded in 2011, by Bryan and Maya Jaycox, Los Angeles’ The Build Shop is remarkable in many ways, but notable as the first DIY 3D printing and laser cutting shop in the city. Meant to be a place where creative minds meet, the first location was established as ‘a dream project.’ We can all probably agree that’s a great way to describe following your passion and starting a new business. With a strong emphasis in wearable technology, art, virtual reality, and more, Bryan was looking for a way to re-create the resources and inspiration he had in college, and wanted a good lab to work in for himself, with access to ‘the best high-end tools used by design professionals.’
“We are your friendly neighborhood hackerspace, the fab lab around the corner, your local 3D print shop and tech hub, your private design firm, your personal factory, and your friends in the next tech revolution,” states the team.

The new store opened on March 18 at 609 E. Santa Ana Blvd, and they will be celebrating with a formal opening event on Saturday April 16, 2016 at 6 p.m. This dynamic event at the new shop will be offering live 3D printing and laser cutting demonstrations, and the team will also be showing off an exhibition of 3D printed and laser cut objects which should be of particular interest as they have been created by Build Shop customers. If you are attending, you can also look forward to entering a raffle for lots of 3D printed and laser cut prizes.
This should be an inspiring way to spend an evening, as well as learning more about the industry in general. The event will give you an opportunity to see high-end tools in action, as well as finding out more about all the classes offered at the Build Shop OC, including all levels of learning with classes in 3D printing, 3D modeling, 3D scanning and laser cutting, as well as training and repairs for in-home, personal 3D printers.
