Copypastry opened for business on Etsy in November 2014, and already the shop has received over 1,000 Facebook Likes; people are raving about the cutters in the Etsy Review section. It appears that custom-made cookie cutters are in demand, which makes sense since people frequently bake cookies for special occasions. Why not make that occasion extra special by surprising a loved one with a 3D printed cookie cutter that looks just like them, or you, or your family dog?
How are these cutters made? Here’s Copypastry’s own description:
“Discover our custom-made cookie cutters! Inspired by your photographs, created by a team of crafty graphic designers and produced with cutting edge 3D printers. Have any silhouette, family portrait, logo or drawing printed and bake your heart out!”
You send Copypastry your photos, and they hand draw a caricature based on the photos. Then the hand-drawn caricature is made into a 3D model and 3D printed in PLA (handwash only), with average product dimensions of 100 mm x 150 mm x 9 mm. The cutters can ship anywhere from Budapest, Hungary, where they are lovingly made.
One Etsy reviewer summarized the custom cutter here, including its sturdiness, which is important in a cookie cutter:
“This is by far the funniest gift anyone could ever receive. I had one made for my sister and brother-in-law, one of my sister and I, and one for my boyfriend. The cookie cutter is NOT flimsy at all and seems to capture the details of the photos. Love, love, love this gift and the shop owner was extremely friendly and willing to take my personal requests into consideration.”
