The 3Doodler Awards 2015 Winners Have Been Announced!

dood1Two months ago we announced that 3Doodler is having its first ever awards in eight different thematic categories, but in case you don’t know what a 3Doodler pen is let’s back up for one quick second. 3Doodler is “the world’s first 3D printing pen,” and it has inspired many incredible creations from its users. In 2014, a Kickstarter campaign ended that raised over $2,300,000 from 26,457 backers, and the pen has been going strong ever since. With its first shipments made in February of 2014, the world has certainly become a more creative place due to this incredible gadget that has over 80 colors of plastic to choose from. Now, 3Doodler is acknowledging all of the amazing 3D printed pen creations in its first annual 3Doodler Awards 2015. Here’s a look at winners in all eight categories that include interior design, fashion, education, mixed media and more.

Artist Award

The first award, the Artist Award, goes to Rachel Goldsmith for her nautical shell piece. Goldsmith works mainly with PLA plastic, permanent ink on paper, or water-based paint on canvas, and she holds a Masters of Art and Design Education Degree from Pratt Institute (2007). She has already made a name for herself for her “painting in plastic” series, and 3Doodler has acknowledged her amazing artwork prior to bestowing this top prize on her.

The Runner Up in the Artist category, created by Julian Masson, brings together geometry made via 3Doodler and paint and canvas in one dynamic creation.

Character Award

You may not be surprised that the winner in the Character category is a minion. After all, minions were quite the rage in 2015, and 3Doodler recognizes Roland San Jose’s perfect minion rendition here. You can even wind this minion up!

Runner Up in this category went to Yudi Marton for his “Horse with Rider” that is apparently still a work in progress.

Education Award

In the Education category, Marcel Barrientos’ class took the top award for its “whole vista of structural doodles” that even includes a bridge.

The Runner Up prize goes to José Manuel Díaz  for an incredible “Light Bridge” that features extremely intricate doodles that look almost like a bird in flight.

Fashion Award

The fashion award goes to Queensland’s Erica Gray, whose piece “Crystal Matrix” looks like is perfectly described by its name. It’s an all-white piece that features a head piece that becomes a dress.

And Michelline doodled a captivating red Fish Brooch with her pen to capture the Runner Up Fashion Award.

Interior Design Award

In the Interior Design category, it’s all about flowers this time around. Esra Oguz’s contribution to the Interior Design category caught the attention of the judges for her realistic floral arrangement. This colorful arrangement features a wide variety of flowers in a basket — with a bumble bee and butterfly added to finish the garden scene off.

Coming in as the Runner Up is a floral lamp by Janice or JanJan85. This lamp is a multi-colored and multi-patterned flower in a black vase, and it really works as a lamp, too.

Mixed Media Award

Next  is the Mixed Media Award. Top prize goes to Paul, who used his 3Doodler pen and some other materials to fashion a ship that looks like it’s put some time in on the high seas.

Carrie Michael took Runner Up in this category for her  Game of Thrones-inspired Lannister Lion Ocarina. Yes, that’s right, Michael’s 3Doodler helped her design a musical instrument, and for that she has certainly earned her award here for this innovative use of her pen.

Wildlife Award

Here, Martuk takes the top prize in the Wildlife category for a haunting tribute to the wolf that seems to emerge out of the white plastic doodle work all around it. This piece is very elaborate web of sorts, and it is a very good example of the kind of design work that a 3Doodler pen can inspire.

The Levittown Public Library is the home to the creature taking the Runner Up award in this category; it was created by a group of makers who apparently hold much enthusiasm for creating 3Doodled winged creatures that look like a cross between an unicorn and a wolf or other four-legged creature of the woods.

Doodle of the Year

Last but not least we have our top winner: The Doodler of the Year! First prize goes to @Connie_Doodles for another splendid 3Doodled creation. This one is a woman who looks like she’s ecstatically dancing next to a large seahorse, some aquatic plants, and a turtle nearby.

For his Runner Up award, Eduardo Pires contributes a 3Doodled version of St. Basil’s Cathedral — Russia’s famous and very colorful Red Square church (see below). Discuss your thoughts on this contest in the 3Doodler Announces Winners forum over at 3DPB.com.
