Over the holidays I was at a Christmas Eve party making chitchat with someone loading their plate sky high with homemade treats. We managed to strike up a conversation over the heaping load of goodies, and as 3D printing entered the conversation, I discovered that my new friend at the dessert table was a bit of an old timer, and well versed in CNC technology. “Oh yeah, Dremel’s making a 3D printer now, right?” I nodded, somewhat fascinated with the particular manufacturer that had come up (and so appropriate to him), considering so many other popular manufacturers in the constant spotlight today.
And outside of Christmas party chitchat, the Dremel comes up again, as we see it taking a number one spot in the JeeQ Data 4th Quarter 2015 Report. According to numbers provided by Best Buy, indeed the Dremel Idea Builder (noted in silver/blue) is being taken note of by many as worthy of purchasing. Last we saw, for 3rd Quarter 2015, this same 3D printer was in the number five spot. Not surprisingly, this is a 3D printer manufacturer we report on often as they take on new partnerships with companies like HP and MyStemKits, as well as offering up cool projects in miniature just for the fun of it.
The Bestselling Brand Summary for Bestbuy.com differs somewhat though in percentages, rearranging the hierarchy somewhat. In this light, we see XYZPrinting in first place with the highest percentage at 33.85%. After that, we have 3D Systems at 21.32%, Dremel at 10%, and Robo3D at 8.9%. For Best Selling Trends, XYZ Printing comes out on top again, leading us to wonder how long Dremel will hold its number one place as the bestselling hardware.
What makes these JeeQ Data reports so interesting is the different stories that are told between BestBuy.com and Amazon. The lineup is entirely different from Amazon, with an entirely new product at the top, in the form of the 7Tech 3D printing pen (in light blue below), retailing there at around $90. This is number one for the 2015 4th Quarter Top 20 Best Selling 3D Printers at Amazon.com. Following is the FlashForge Creator Pro, knocked out of first place from last quarter. Not surprisingly, coming in third is another 3D printing pen, the Samto 3D Stereoscopic Printing Pen for 3D Printing and Doodling (in blue). In fourth place is the 3Doodler 3D Printing Pen (black), and in fifth comes the IPC 3D Printing Pen. One would assume of course that the 3D printing pens are very popular with Amazon due to their low price, easy shipping, and popularity for gifts.
