Orbbec to Highlight Astra Pro & Persee 3D Cameras at CES 2016

We’ve been following Orbbec throughout the fall, as they announced the release of their two 3D cameras, the Astra Pro and Persee. Now, as the New Year approaches, so does CES 2016, offering Orbbec the opportunity to highlight both products for the world.

Last we heard in October, Orbbec was launching their Indiegogo campaign for the Persee, the world’s first 3D camera computer. With great success, they raised nearly three times what was anticipated, with a total of more than $112,000. As demand for their technologies continues to increase, so does their production assembly line for both the Orbbec Astra Pro–already in production with over 30,000 units shipping out monthly–and the Orbbec Persee camera computer, which will be headed out to consumers this spring from their independent production line.

But for now, everyone can look forward to catching these products in action at CES 2016, to be held in Las Vegas from January 6-9. Demonstrations will be available at the Orbbec booth, located at LVCC South Hall 2 No. 26814.

All of Orbbec’s 3D technologies are open platform, supporting Windows, Android, OS X and Linux systems. They function as the only company providing 3D sensors to have their own independent production line, not relying on third-party manufacturers.

Because of this, they are able to be competitive, keep prices low and allow products like the Astra Pro (an upgraded, fancier version of the original Astra structured light 3D camera) to be integrated into businesses for bringing ideas and solution to life in 3D, all the while offering an engaging experience and a wide range of uses from home and office to manufacturing and robotics.

The Persee is also a computer, making for a multi-functional piece of equipment. Actually encompassing everything that the Astra Pro does, the Persee also offers a powerful ARM computer, and includes an Asquad-core 1.8GHz CPU, 600MHz GPU with OpenCL support, Wi-Fi and high-speed Ethernet, 2GB DDR3 RAM, and an embedded 16GB eMMC Flash

Founded two years ago by Josh Blake along with CEO Yuanhao (Howard) Huang and Zhenzhong Xiao, the Orbbec team is dedicated to offering helpful products to their community of developers and coders, as well as encouraging and supporting them.

“Our 3D world needs computers that can see in 3D. We need computers that can see, hear, understand, and make sense of the world around them. What Orbbec can offer is customization of our 3D platform for our business customers, to leverage the power of 3D that can fully enhance the user experience for their products,” says Huang.

The 3D technology company is headquartered in Shenzen, China, and also maintains operations in Seattle, Washington. They are now also beginning to align with numerous original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners for the purpose of embedding Orbbec’s patented technology into a broad array of applications meant for design, manufacturing, and research and development.

Orbbec is indeed gaining momentum steadily, and they report that growth is accelerating as they continue to produce superior 3D hardware as well as build software development kits (SDK) meant to enable coders and developers to deliver amazing 3D experiences.  Will you be attending CES?  Let us know in the Astra Pro & Persee CES forum thread on 3DPB.com.
