3D Systems has been on a roll lately when it comes to acquisitions and partnerships. One area which seems to be important for the company is the gaming industry. Just last week, 3D Systems announced a partnership with Hasbro, one of the largest toy makers in the world. This trend has continued today.
Digital Dollhouse, which has over 525,000 members worldwide, seems to be a great fit for 3D Systems, as the game already enables players to use 3D printing to create an actual 3D dollhouse with custom furnishings. In fact, the online video which promoted Digital Dollhouse featured a 3D Systems’ Cubify Cube printer in it.
Digital Playspace was founded by Jesyca Durchin, who has an extensive background in games, as well as being a key adviser for Disney Theme Parks, in which she helped with brand-sponsored exhibitions targeting women. Jesyca issued the following statement regarding the acquisition,
“We are thrilled to integrate our virtual and actual play experiences directly into the 3DS Cubify platform. Our vision is to deliver a ‘3D PlaySpace’ for everyone. The immersiveness and fun of our PlaySpace experience enhances brand recall and loyalty, enabling brands and retailers to connect with consumers in a whole new way. We designed Digital PlaySpace from the bottom-up for publishing flexibility and scalability, and 3DS is the perfect home for our growth.”
3D Systems appears to be venturing into mainstream markets, trying to acquire and partner with companies which have mainstream brand recognition. In doing so, they hope to create significantly more demand for their consumer based 3D printers like the Cube.
“We are excited to have Jesyca and her entire Digital PlaySpace team join our Cubify platform, enabling millions of new users to connect with family, friends and favorite brands in more immersive and socially creative ways,” said Cathy Lewis, Chief Marketing Officer, 3DS. “Digital PlaySpace’s ability to customize and rapidly publish mobile and web 3D printable content provides a differentiated value proposition for brands and consumers alike.
