“Many designers have been asking us for a way to showcase creations that customers can access for free as a means to spark interest in their larger bodies of work,” said Oskar Lis, Formsfield CEO. “We answered their call! This new feature provides a great way for designers to promote their work and a terrific opportunity for our site’s visitors to see how easy and fun 3D printing can be.”
Formsfield is encouraging the upload of free designs with a Winter Challenge running from December 18 to January 17. Designers are asked to upload designs that can be downloaded and printed by consumers for free, and all designs must fit a theme: winter tools. Any free products uploaded as part of the challenge must be practical tools commonly used in winter, i.e. ice scrapers, snow shovels, skiing and snowboarding accessories, etc.
If you happen to live in or be visiting Warsaw, where Formsfield is based, during the first snowfall of 2016, you could get some useful 3D printed tools for free. 100 copies of the winning design will be printed, and as soon as the flakes begin to fly for the first time (after the contest’s end date of January 17th, presumably), the Formsfield team will give the products out to people on the streets. A video will also be made during the promotional event, featuring locals talking about their experiences using their 3D printed items.
“It’s an exciting way to show consumers how 3D-printed products can easily fit into their daily lives,” said Lis.
Entry is simple – just go to Formsfield’s web site, upload your design to the Winter Challenge category, set the price to €0, and wait for your design to be accepted. There’s no limit on the amount of designs that can be uploaded by any one participant. At this time, only one entry has been uploaded to the site, so get your designs up there! Will you be participating in this contest? Let us know in the Formsfield Winter Challenge forum on 3DPB.com.
