Kickstarter Campaign Launched for Personalized 3D Printed Keychains from MOOGUE

Dutch startup company MOOGUE wants to help people design their own products on whichever device they choose: phone, tablet, laptop, or PC. They will print them for you on their 3D printer (or you can download the STL file if you choose). It already worked for MOOGUE when they offered a personalized 3D printed phone case. Will MOOGUE have the same luck with 3D printed keychains? They’ve launched a 3D Text Keychain Kickstarter campaign to raise €500 (about USD $536) by December 17. The money will be used for a website where people design their own keychains.

How does this work? MOOGUE has set up a beta version website so you can see for yourself how easy it is to design your own keychain. If you go check this site out, you’ll discover a very easy platform for designing, that follows some simple steps. On the top, you are prompted to write the text you want in a box. Next, you choose your colors. MOOGUE offers red, purple, orange, blue, green, and pink as your color options. Then you choose between either the Amsterdam or Melbourne fonts. The next box says “Twist” where you have the option to give your letters a height difference or not. Finally there are your material choices: normal nylon, stainless steel, or carbon nylon.

I went ahead and made one with my name, Michelle, choosing the purple nylon, in the Amsterdam font and the first Twist option. And yes, it is quite simple. There’s also a small box in the bottom right hand corner of the screen that allows you to get a 3D view of the design from all directions.

So, after seeing that example of my own keychain, you’re convinced now that you want to support the campaign for customized 3D printed keychains, right? Only $3 will get you an STL file of your self-designed keychain that you can use to 3D print on your own. But it only takes $6 to get you the actual SLS 3D printed keychain, complete with stainless steel ring. For only $6, they will do all of the printing.

You may want to consider a package deal for five keychain vouchers on the website for €35 ($38).  But the real deal from MOOGUE is at the €45 ($48) level, where you can get one voucher for a keychain and one for a phone case. Hey! Why not design a matching set using the same colors for the keychain and phone case?

And finally, at its most expensive offer, a €70 ($75) pledge gets you a customized metal 3D printed keychain. You decide!

The campaign ends next week, so consider the upcoming holidays for gifts (estimated delivery date is December 2015). There’s that coworker you need a fun inexpensive Secret Santa gift for, your children’s teachers, your personal trainer…

This might just be the answer to all of your holiday shopping problems!  Discuss this story in the MOOGUE Kickstarter forum thread on 3DPB.com.
