The 3D Print Show has closed in NYC this week and it was certainly an exciting show. We saw several new printers launch, the last one being the BigRep ONE. They apparently saved the biggest printer for last, because 
The idea behind the BigRep ONE was to close the gap between consumer based model size printers and that of large scale industrial printers. The print volume is a staggering 1147 x 1000 x 1188 mm, or 1.3 cubic meters. They have shown off several large prints, which include furniture pieces among other large objects. Just because this printer can print at large scale, doesn’t mean it’s resolution has been put on the back burner. It actually has just as fine resolution as the Makerbot Replicator 2, at 100 microns.
The founders of the company, which was formed just this year, Marcel Tasler and Lukas Oehmigen, have their roots in the art field. They have created a printer which they can use to print out their own large pieces of work. The inspiration behind the company was to create something big, without compromising quality, and as the founders state on their site,
“From furniture to vehicles to robotics, we think everything is possible. We want you to envision everything from human scale robot parts, sculptural artworks in all their full-dimensional glory, and dream the impossible world-changing designs of tomorrow while enabling you to print them today using the BigRep ONE.”

This device will cost you more than your typical consumer based 3D printer, at $39,000, which puts it at the high end of non-industrial printers, but below the price of almost all industry scale printers. The BigRep ONE will be available for shipment in April or May of this year.
