The Keys evoke thoughts of old-timey Florida history, Henry Flagler’s railroad, and Ernest Hemingway. While most folks do live on the most extreme and wonderful kind of island time in Monroe County where it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere, the Florida Keys–and especially Key West–are home to a thriving and colorful economy.
It’s not all bars and fishing boats though. When it comes to enjoying life, people in Key West have a clue. And now they have 3D printing too, thanks to Chad and Kelly Remmert, who have opened up a new shop called 3D Mini Me on the famous Front Street, which is sure to draw in plenty of relaxed folks vacationing away–as well as a sophisticated and tech savvy crowd. From educators to homeschooling families–from writers to artists–Key West is one creative town.
“We have spent the last 3 years perfecting the 3D printer and human scanning techniques to make the process easy fast and fun,” state the Remmerts on their website.
With all the information you’ll need on their multi-faceted offerings available if you stroll in, you can start out by being scanned and having your own 3D printed selfie produced, ranging very reasonably in price from $39.95 for the smallest bust sculpture to $249 if you decide to break out the big bucks on your vacay and go all out for the full-standing sculpture.
The 3D printed sculptures are available in:
- Single busts
- Full-standing sculptures
- Couple sculptures
- Complete family portrait sculptures
- Full color standing sculptures
The 3D models are solid or hollow, depending on your preference, which also includes choice of custom finish (to even include colors like hot pink and glow-in-the-dark!) and a matching wood base, also custom finished.
“We have put together a great system where people can come into the store and see the printers working live using our Printrbots metal plus and showing the print program progress on large TV screens,” Chad Remmert told 3DPrint.com. “There’s a Creative Center where people can sit down and create [their] own parts and then print it. We have been placing the mini me’s on a wood base with [their] names, Key West, or anything they want, all 3d printed. We include a certificate of authenticity with each mini me containing print time, filament length used and layer count, this is something we though of after working in the fine art galleries for years.”
Do you have an idea in mind, or an .stl file that just needs to be 3D printed? If so, 3D Mini Me can help you design a project or just fabricate one on a Printrbot 3D printer in either PLA or ABS. If you have a project in mind, the Remmerts invite you to stop by and get a quote or contact them by email. The team also offers a number of innovative business solutions like 3D printed business cards, placards for special events, and other small custom items. 3D scanning services are also available.
