While the team of engineers, designers, and artists has been at that office since last year, they’ve just formally had their first open house to show off their talents and their wares at their two-level storefront shop that offers a great atmosphere and expansive creative vibe for what they are doing.
And what they are doing exactly is everything to do with 3D, to include:
- 3D printing
- 3D modeling
- 3D scanning
- Custom fabrication
Downstairs, the team not only displayed ‘tons of sample pieces’ but they were also actually 3D printing on the spot, with their Stratasys machine pumping out models that they gave out to attendees each time it finished production. Hollywood 3D also had a raffle and gave away loads of items, for which they are still busy announcing the winners.
“Upstairs, we had a live 3D modeling session with chairs for attendees to sit and watch. It was packed with at least 50 people; you could barely walk,” said Miles Guidon, co-founder of Hollywood 3D Printing. “The items being 3D modeled were 3D printed ahead of time so attendees could get a sense of the power of 3D modeling and 3D printing mixed together. There is also live 3D scanning, where we 3D scan people for free–also upstairs, in a separate section.”
The next day, the team posted all of the scans online to a dedicated SketchFab folder, so people could share their ‘3D Selfies’ with the world. You can check them out for yourself here. The real-life appearance in each 3D print is quite amazing, compared with the quality of other similar products we’ve seen.
“Based on the success of this open-house event, our sights are set on the next one, as well as holding more industry-targeted events like an entertainment professionals’ open house, prop-makers’ open house, architecture open house, effects artists, etc.” said Guidon.
“We know the right questions to ask you to make sure we have a full understanding of what you need,” says the team on their website.
Skilled engineers, artists and designers are responsible for fulfilling designs to the exact specifications needed, producing high resolution prints quickly. Their mission, as they say, is to ‘get ideas out of your head–and into your hands.’ Located on N. Fairfax Ave. in Los Angeles, they welcome walk-ins and have a great following of clients already who depend on them regularly for quality 3D printing needs.
