Toronto: Think2Thing Atelier & Ryerson University Host Toronto’s First 3D Printing Conference

While they may be famous for enjoying big snows, serious hockey and other sports, along with numerous historical features, the citizens of Toronto are now also getting a big dose of 3D printing and what it’s really all about. They will be joined by many other visiting event-goers about to hit the scene at the first 3D printing conference and exhibit to be held in Toronto, where a growing population savvy and active in the technology sector dwells currently, inhabiting the art, automotive, medical sectors, and more.

Think2Thing is a 3D printing atelier comprised of designers with an intense focus on innovation, as well as research and development of 3D printing. Founded by award-winning photographer Edward Burtynsky and designer David Didur, Think2Thing is privately owned and headquartered in downtown Toronto, where they specialize in the highest end 3D prototyping, modeling, design, and manufacturing.

Also the co-founders of the Advanced Manufacturing, Design, and 3D Printing Lab at Ryerson University, Think2Thing will be co-hosting the event, currently known as the ‘inaugural’ Be3Dimensional Conference.

To be held from October 23-24th with and at Ryerson University, the event is expected to draw almost 1,000 attendees who will enjoy hearing industry 3D printing experts from around the globe use this venue as a hub for debating and discussing topics regarding the technology at hand. Also onsite, there will be an exhibit of 3D printed products to be curated and presented on display at the Be3Dimensional Conference.

“Forward thinking designers across both the 3D digital and physical spaces are applying 3D technology tools to solve challenges in a broad range of industries,” states the conference team. “Understanding the dynamic adoption and use of this technology in industrial and professional contexts is critical for reaping the benefits these technologies enable.”

“B3D will help us understand the impact of these technologies, share best practices, and create a community that is able to apply these technologies at a world-class level.”

Ryerson is known as Canada’s leader in both innovation and education, and their mission is ‘to serve societal need.’ Extremely community-oriented, the university currently educates over 38,000 students being taught and administered to by nearly 2,700 faculty and staff, offering 100 undergraduate and graduate programs.

Those attending will be able to enjoy a wide array of sessions, with topics such as 3D digital storytelling and ethics being discussed, along with an ongoing conversation regarding the impacts 3D printing and its associated technologies are having on our world society as a whole. Click here for the full conference agenda. Admission is fee, and the event is open to all. There will be a VIP welcome reception on Friday, October 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The event moves on the 24th to the Winter Garden Theatre, where it will be hosted by Nora Young, creator of Spark, which is CBC’s national radio show and podcast about technology and culture. Experts will be in attendance there also discussing impacts of the technology and its substantial importance to industries like architecture, fashion, medicine, the arts, and far more.
