An Insane Love for Bags Inspires Italian Designers to Create Do-It-Yourself 3D Printed Bags with XYZbag
3D printing technology has been a boost to the fashion industry, allowing designers to bring forth stunning–and often outrageous–new concepts. We see a multitude of dresses and shoes, but now, thanks to Italy’s XYZbag, we’re going to have the bag to match, as well. This is not your everyday bag, nor is it your everyday 3D printing concept either. This is a bag meant to be ‘by you–and for you.’
Allowing users to express themselves in their own terms–and texts–rather than bearing a status driven logo, the team behind this new concept truly does have a revolutionary vision for accessorizing, allowing you to take a saying and emboss it directly onto your handbag which is then ‘tailor made by digital design.’ The user can comprehensively design the bag, even changing its shape. The XYZbag team, passionate about technology, was inspired by today’s new high-tech devices, a true affinity for design and the social evolution of the designer, as well as an ‘insane love for bags.’
The ‘co-created fashion sartorial handbags’ are meant to harness 3D printing technology for allowing a new authenticity and a unique experience. They are convinced this will become your one and only handbag, offering an organic, beautiful aesthetic with a sandy nylon texture.
Users are able to participate in the creation experience themselves with an online configurator which the XYZbag team promises is user friendly, offering a live preview as well via augmented reality, so that the user can make any changes before the final purchase. While text editing is part of the equation, the bag can also be fully personalized.
“Users can inject their character and perspective into the 3D bag. A bespoken one could be created on request thanks to a tailored design process,” said the team in their latest press release. “They could choose among several options in which they will express their individual identities.”
Founders Matteo and Annalisa dreamt of creating a bag that would become more than just an accessory.
“Always involved in design and technologies for plastic products, I was looking for new ways to communicate, to share my thoughts in a new medium, and above all, I was looking for a way to have fun,” says Annalisa. “I always consider bags my partners in everyday life. Bags are much more than objects of desire.”
Designed completely in Italy, the ‘Dada by You’ purse is a mini-bag made via 3D printing. It consists of a small inside bag and a leather vintage strap, allowing for a casual look during the day as well as conveying a ‘sparkling’ look for the evening.
“It can be a miniature clutch, purse, makeup bag or used to keep your essentials together,” states the team on their website. “Miniature-sized doesn’t mean minimal use!”
“An amusing (and extremely useful) function of your Dada is that it can be used as a useful fanny pack or a cross bag, by just turning the strap.”
“We know that social recognition and texting are so important for digital natives today, and we would like to give them a special item to share with their friends that embodies their intimate urgency and tech savvy culture too. A support to help them feeling creative and expressive,” says Annalisa.
The bags can be completely personalized on request, with different colors, inspiring images, and texts. The mission of the XYZbag team is to help you ’empower your being unlike anything else.’ We get it–we really do! The bags represent not just a way to express yourself, but also allow you to have a lot of fun, embrace a wide range of options–and in the end, look great. Have you tried our any of these designs?
