logoKwambio has been on our radar for quite some time as they’ve worked diligently toward today’s launch of their dynamic 3D file platform. Along the way, they’ve sprinkled their path to success with some pretty major bread crumbs–from sneak peaks regarding their 3D file platform to the creation of a sleek and truly innovative Unique One 3D printer to be launched soon as well.

Membership in the startup incubator Techstars Boston Accelerator Program yielded them an entire summer of participation as well as $650,000 in angel funding (now up to $1.2 million) for the Kwambio platform from both Techstars and other sources.

UntitledKwambio has built a good foundation. This is a team that knows they have something solid to share, and they’ve been working hard to build on that, leading up to their launch. Today marks the momentous event that they will officially unveil their well designed, evolved platform–available via web-based services and their iOS app–now putting Kwambio on the radar of all those who are interested in either downloading quality 3D files or in offering their designs without having to worry about piracy.

Now based in Boston, the company was originally founded in Ukraine by Vlad Usov and Dmitriy Krivoshey. A company with energy, momentum, and a constant nod to the future, Kwambio has been working toward this day, as have their opening cast of designers:

  • Daniel Michalik
  • Kladia Miczan
  • Alissia Melka-Teichrow
  • Andrew Sack
  • Colleen and Eric
  • Ivan Zhurba
  • Hart Marlow
  • Angela Eberhardt

Thinking of themselves as the best of all worlds in 3D downloads–as if one combined Shapeways and Thingiverse–Kwambio is on a mission to give users a unique, improved experience. While your simple goal is to find an awesome file and 3D print it, Kwambio has integrated some innovative features. Not only can you choose that file to 3D print, but you can be guaranteed it will print on your 3D printer, and in just a few clicks you can also customize and personalize it however you would like, with no 3D modeling skills required.

UntitledThe files are streamed directly to your 3D printer, offering the ultimate ease for you, and peace of mind for designers all around, as they retain full custody of their original files and ownership of their designs, with no intellectual property or copyrighting threat.

You can change the 3D object in terms of size, shape, pattern, color, and more–even including adding text on products. You can share, follow your favorite designers, and enjoy the power of creativity all around.illustration3

“Our service allows users to enrich their buying experience through social engagement, including offering news feeds, following preferred designers, and sharing their own personalized creations,” the Kwambio team told 3DPrint.com. “We combine the best of Shapeways and Thingiverse.”

Upon today’s launch of Kwambio, as they “bring personal relations to manufacturing on a global scale,” users will be able to peruse hundreds of designs that they can make unique to themselves and 3D print from the comfort of the office, home, or workshop. Kwambio has also partnered with Materialise for on-demand ordering, with 18 different materials available–even to include ceramics and wood.

“We created Kwambio because we wanted to give everyone a chance to own their story through the products in their lives,” they said. “Individuality comes from within, and people need a simple tool to create things unique to themselves.”

Will you be checking out the Kwambio platform and downloading a 3D file or two for customization and 3D printing? Discuss in the Kwambio’s 3D File Platform Launch Platform forum thread over at 3DPB.com.
