Another week has passed here at 3DPrint.com, so that means another recap of all the exciting industry news we have seen over the last seven days. It’s been another exciting week for sure!
German Researchers 3D Print Extremely Light, Yet Strong Bonelike Structures (Full Story)
Using the blueprint from human biology, German researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, were able to print out 3D structures which were very light, yet able to stand up against extreme stress. These materials could eventually be used in a variety of applications throughout dozens of industries.
AT&T Teams with 3D Systems to Enter 3D Printing Industry (Full Story)
In a somewhat unexpected partnership, AT&T, and 3D Systems teamed up to allow the cell phone carrier the ability to market and sell 3D Systems’ Cubify line of consumer based 3D printers, both online and at stores. The printers were immediately available on AT&T’s website for $1229, and by last Friday they were all sold out online. The printers are now available again at AT&T’s website.
Another Gun is 3D Printed (Full Story)
This one was just an airsoft pellet gun, however, it was one of the more complicated devices we have ever seen 3D printed. The gun was designed, printed, and made available via download on Instructables, by a man named Sam Logan.
3D Printing Stocks Get Stomped On (Full Story)
After nearly a year and a half of appreciation of U.S. 3D printing stocks, a mass sell off finally took place. The sell off was sparked by a warning issued by 3D Sytems concerning their 2013 year end earnings expectations. At one
point their stock, DDD, saw a daily decline of over 25%, before it had a slight rebound. SSYS, ONVO, and other popular 3D printing stocks all took a hit this week.
Materialise Acquires e-Prototype (Full Story) 
There was some more consolidation within the 3D printing industry this week. Belgium’s Materialise acquired Poland’s leading prototyping firm, e-Prototype. The terms of the acquisition were not released to the public.
